The project Fundamental Exploration of Symmetry Breaks on Next-Generation 2D Hybrid Materials is a collaborative endeavor between the teams of Prof. Barth (TUM Physics Departmant E20) and Dr. Weber-Bargioni (Molecular Foundry, LBNL Berkeley), which aims on the realization of novel quantum material systems by combining two-dimensional (2D) sheet materials with self-assembled low-D nanoarchitectures to induce symmetry breaks that have not yet been achievable using traditional crystalline material platforms. Thus we envision the synthesis of magnetic coordination networks on NbSe2 superconductors or other sheet materials, which will be jointly explored by scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and spectroscopy (STS) and complementary tools. With STS, we address local electronic properties, such as superconductivity, quasiparticle excitations and their hybridized electronic band structure. Moreover, THz-STM measurement can probe ultra-fast intermediate transitions, which may unveil exotic states of 2D hybrids.
