Artificial urinary implants - finalization of development phase and clinical validation

An “artificial urinary sphincter” as well as a “fully implantable alloplastic bladder” are currently being developed by a research initiative of Munich University of Applied Sciences, Institute for Sensor Technology in cooperation with the Department of Urology, University of Luebeck. These systems imitate the functionality of the human body section and are conceived as a new therapy option for patients suffering of bladder cancer or loss of continence from neurologic causes or due to sphincter weakness.
In preparation of a clinical validation phase we intend to establish a cooperation between Munich University of Applied Sciences and Stanford University, School of Medicine in California as both Universities have research interests in the field of artificial sphincters / urinary bladder. Stanford University has new high-tech prototype designs for cooperative development consideration and has a large clinical research trial institution for human application.
