Realtime Global Illumination in Large Environments
Realtime simulation of light propagation in virtual environments is a highly challenging task. Global illumination includes effects such as shadows from area light sources, natural lighting, indirect illumination, subsurface scattering or atmospheric lighting effects. In the last years, the enormous increase in computation power available on dedicated graphics hardware resulted in a number of novel approaches making the computation of some of the global illumination effects possible in real-time. The goal of the proposed project is to develop novel global illumination algorithms for large environments, such as landscapes with vegetation, and cityscape with large building structures.
