NMR-based analysis of aromatic compunds
Aromatic structures represent relevant and common constituents of natural products, metabolites and natural organic matter, plant cell walls and derivatives (e.g. lignins). In complex materials a correct structural analysis of aromatic compounds is difficult to obtain. The working groups want to advance a jointly developed NMR-based method of structural analysis of aromatic compounds [SPARIA: Analytical Chemistry, 79 (2007) 1010-1021; Substitution Patterns in Aromatic Rings by Increment Analysis]. The recognition of homonuclear correlation NMR spectra (COSY, TOCSY) is intended to improve sensitivity and relevance of the SPARIA analysis. NMR spectra of model compounds and natural aromatic materials as well as their mathematical evaluation by modified increment algorithms will serve to reach this target.
