Multi-Core Architectures for Large Scale Computational Science
The advent of multi core processors creates many new challenges for large scale scientific computing. Parallelism will be driven to unprecedented levels of hundreds of thousands of computational cores. Such high-end computers will be organized in complex hierarchical structures. This project will focus using multi-core architectures for challenging applications in computational science, such as simulating the blood flow in aneurysms and understanding biological networks from proteomics and the spread of infectious disease. The two partners plan to share their expertise in using multi-core processors for these applications, including algorithm development, program development tools, and benchmarking results.
